He's been acting so strange lately. The way he's gathering his books under his left arm after lessons. The way he bows his head when he closes his locker. The way he strides past the windows as if there's somewhere he wants to go without knowing how to get there. I've kept wondering about him since we were young enough to hold hands.
Lately I wish we wouldn't grow up.
He's more around me now than ever before, he's my constant companion, like a silent monolyth walking beside me, carrying my things, borrowing me his pencils. He's there when I need him, even when I didn't think about it at all. It seems as if he'd never leave my side, but he seems to avoid my gaze.
Why is growing up so complicated? He's become so much more silent, although I thought he couldn't talk less than he did before. What is it that eats him up inside? Don't try to fool me, I know you just too well.
